GRADE READING LIST
Version 2016-05 Page 1 of 11
The purpose of this Reading List is to support the mission of ATA: to provide students with a strong
foundation of knowledge. When a student graduates from ATA, s/he will have read at least 30 quality
literature books and completed reports on them. Four book reports per year are required in 1st through
8th grade, with the exception of some grades requiring a special report in place of a book report.
ATA recognizes that every book on the Reading List may not be completely suitable or appropriate for
every child. Therefore, it is the parent's responsibility to pre-screen the book for his or her child if s/he is
concerned about a book's content.
A student may pick any book from the Reading List for his or her book report as long as 1) the book is at
or above the student’s current grade level and 2) is not an adapted version of the story (i.e., it should not
say “Adapted by…” on the title page). Book report books do not have to meet a certain genre or page
requirement.
Book titles listed in bold at the end of each grade level list are unavailable for book report selection. These
books have been selected by the teacher to read and study in class together.
