Familiarizing Students with Key Policies
As Gateway staff, we feel it is important for students and parents to become familiar with several key
student policies that are meant to help promote a more optimal learning environment.
Attendance: The easiest way to excuse your students absence is to go to the Gateway Middle School
website and look for the link under Attendance Reporting Policy. Our attendance email is
GWYAttendance@everettsd.org
Absences can also be excused by sending a note with your student to deliver to the office when he/she
returns to school. Please be sure to include the following information: students first and last name,
student ID number, the reason for the absence, parent/guardian name and signature, as well as a phone
number where the note can be verified. Per district policy, absences must be excused within 30
calendar days. Additional attendance policy information is attached.
Cell phones & Electronics: Everett Public Schools provides students with the technology they need
during the school day to access digital and online learning experiences. Elementary and middle school
students who choose to bring cell phones and other Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) to school may
only use them before or after the school day. During the school day, all cell phones and other PEDs must
be powered off and stored in the student’s backpack. For more information about PED use at school,
please refer to Policy 3246 and Procedure 3246P.
We highly recommend leaving other valuable electronic equipment at home to minimize distractions. If
students choose to use I-pods traveling to/from school, they must also be securely stored in backpacks
during school hours. At no time should video recording devices be used at school, inside or outside the
building, without prior teacher/administrator approval.
Student violation of the cell phone and electronics policies will result in confiscation. Cell phones and
electronics will not be returned to the student. A parent or guardian must pick up the confiscated item,
which will be securely kept in the office.
Gum: Is strictly prohibited on campus at all times, both outside and inside.
