Gulf State Park Campground Rules and
Regulations

Check In is 4:00 PM and Check Out is 11:00 AM
First night rent plus a one-time transaction fee of $4.75 will be charged at the time of
reservation and is non-refundable.
Reservations can be made one year to the date in advance. Reservations for
holiday/event weekends should be made at least 3 months in advance.
Sites can only be booked for a max of 14 nights per site.
Monthly reservations can be made for November through March only and can only be
made by phone or in person at Park Headquarters. Monthly reservations have to be from
first of the arrival month to the first of the month of departure. i.e. 1/1 -2/1.
There is a 3 night minimum on all bookings during special event and holiday weekends. All 3
nights will be charged at the time of reservation and is non-refundable.
Reservation dates may be changed twice after the original reservation. After that, the 1
st
night deposit would be forfeited.
If a handicap site is needed, it must be requested when making the reservation
If a discount is applicable, please inform the campground office at time of Check In.
Minimum age to rent a site is 18 years. A responsible adult must check in and occupy the
site during the entire reservation. Failure to do so will result in eviction and
forfeiture of all payments.
A 2
nd
tent is allowed on a site, either with another tent or with an RV, only if it is for
children under the age of 18 years. There will be an additional charge of $5.00 per night plus
tax for the 2
nd
tent. During Hangout Music Festival, the fee for the 2
nd
tent is
$20.00 per night.
Only 2 vehicles allowed per site and they must be registered upon arrival.
Campers must provide their own camping equipment suitable for the location, subject to
Campground Manager’s approval. A camping permit is required before setting up camp. It is
mandatory to have a camping unit before registering. If you change your mind about the
type of site you were assigned, and find a different type of site, you must return to the
campground office to make this change before you set up your tent or camper.
Registered guest only after 10:00 PM - all guests not staying in the campground need to
leave before 10:00 PM.
All sightseers and guests visiting registered campers must pay a day use fee of $2.00 per
vehicle to enter the campground.

Pets are welcome but MUST BE ON A LEASH no longer than 6 feet at all times. Do not
leave pets outside unattended. PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR PETS.
It is unlawful to hunt, trap, pursue, catch, or kill any wild bird or wild animal in Gulf
State Park. Please keep your distance from all wildlife. Remember, on the trails wildlife have the right of
way.
Draining water, soap, grease, or any other waste product onto the ground or into anything
other than an approved holding tank, sewage receptacles, or dump station is a violation of
State Law.
Electric scooters, Mopeds, Minibikes, Motorcycles, Motor Scooters, Go-Carts, Golf Carts,
and nay other type of motorized vehicle is not allowed to be in the campground unless it is a
licensed vehicle. Only licensed drivers and licensed vehicles are allowed to utilize park roads.
Registered and licensed golf carts are allowed, but must be driven by a licensed driver. This
does not limit the use of equipment to assist handicapped people.
No open fires are permitted except in the grills provided at each campsite. Camping on one
site and using the fire pit or ring on another campsite is not allowed. Campers may bring
their own fire pit if it is at least six inches off the ground.
Pick up downed wood only for campfires. No cutting of trees, branches, or bushes is
allowed. Cut up any wood used for campfires so it is contained within the fire pit and is not
on the ground. No chainsaws allowed in the park. Campfire wood is available for purchase
at the Camp Store.
Deposit trash in dumpsters located on your right as you exit the campground. Household
trash should not be put in the garbage cans at other park facilities.
Alcohol possession and consumption is prohibited in Gulf State Park beach areas
including the Lake Shelby swimming area and adjacent parking areas at the Beach Pavilion
and Lake Shelby. It is illegal to have open alcohol containers in a motor vehicle in the State
of Alabama. Public intoxication will not be tolerated at Gulf State Park.
Swimming is allowed at Lake Shelby ONLY in the roped-off beach area. Swimming,
wading, floating, etc. is not allowed from campsites or any other lakeside areas. Swimming is
only allowed in the day use area of Lake Shelby, which is located off of State Park Road.
Quiet Hours are enforced from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM.
