My Personal Narrative Checklist
I revised my rough draft by boxing off paragraphs, making timelines, and adding
details and descriptions.
I used complete sentences.
I used appropriate capitalization and punctuation.
I brainstormed story ides by making lists or using webs.
I completed at least one rough draft.
I used descriptive language that evokes images and emotions
(ex. I showed how a moment was fun rather than stating that it was fun.)
I self-edited for grammar, punctuation and spelling. I also completed the peer
editing process.
I wrote in the personal narrative genre. My story retold a true event that
happened in my life.
I "zoomed in" on a particular episode and considered where in the sequence of
events the story will begin and end.
I have written in a chronological structure that demonstrates the elements of
storytelling
(reliving/recreating
) as opposed to summarizing
(telling)
.
I grouped related ideas, events, and dialogue into paragraphs.
I used dialogue between characters in addition to narrative descriptions and
explanations.
I demonstrated an understanding of the use of leads to capture a readers
interest.
I demonstrated an understanding of the use of endings to resolve story action and
reflect on deeper meaning.
