CHP Renewal Requirements
You may renew up to 120 days (4 months) prior to your permit’s expiration. A renewal
reminder letter will be mailed to Larimer County permit holders within that time frame.
You must submit your renewal application online and then come to the Sheriff’s Office to
take a new picture Monday-Friday between 9am-4pm (except holidays). Your renewal
application is not complete until to come to the Sheriff's Office to take a new picture.
The cost to renew is $53 online by credit card. Please call or email the CHP Coordinator
if you prefer to pay by cash or check, payable to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
There will be a $12 late fee added to the renewal if your permit has expired within 180
days (6 months). You must re-apply for a new permit if it has expired more than 6
months ago, no exceptions.
The average renewal processing time is between 2-6 weeks. Your new permit will be
mailed to you. Your new permit will expire 5 years from the expiration date of your
previous permit.
Please note that legislative changes were put into effect in 2014 regarding the Concealed
Handgun Permit renewal process. If you move out of the county that issued your permit, you
are now required to renew your permit in the county that you currently reside, own property, or
where you rent/lease property for your business.
