ATTENDANCE—BOARDPOLICIES3050and2380
Attendance at school is an indicator of success in school and is necessary for maximum student learning. All
students are expected to be in class on time every school day.Jefferson School District defines acceptable
elementaryschoolattendanceasmissingnotmorethanseven(7)dayspertrimester.Pleaseseeboard

3050forfurtherinformationatwww.sd251.org.Ifastudentmustbeabsentfromschool,theparent/guardian
isrequestedtocalltheofficeby9:30amtoreporttheabsenceforthatday.Ifaphonecallisnotpossible,a
note explaining the absence must be given to the office on the day of return. If paren ts/guardians find it
necessarytotakestudentsoutofschoolforanextendedperiod,pleasecontacttheofficeinadvance.
Tardies/Earlycheckouts
Tardiescausedbyalatebus,inclementweather,orformedicalreasonswithanoteareexcusedand
shallnotbecountedonthestudent’srecord.“Excessivetardies”isdefinedas
morethanfivetardiesper
trimester,andparentswillbeinformedvialetterthatexcessivetardiesimpedeinstructioncontinuity.

Absences
Students who accrueten (10) consecutive absences will bedropped from school.Whenthestudent
returnsto
school,thestudentmaybereenrolledinschool.Studentsservedbyhomeboundwillnotbe
includedinthisprocedure(boardpolicy2380).Inaddition,studentswithseven(7)ormoreunverifi ed
absences,whetherconsecutiveoraccumulative,maybereferredtotheBoardofTrustees,ordesignee,
asahabitual
truant.
MakeUpWork
Studentswhoareabsentfromorlatetoclasscan make up work missed, buttheymissoutondirect
instruction,acriticalcomponentintheeducationalachievementofstudents.
ACADEMICORBEHAVIORCONCERNS
Whenacademicorbehavioralconcerns becomeapparenttoeitherparentorteacher,thedistricthasaproblem
solvingprocesstoaddresstheissue.Thefirststepisfortheparentandteachertodiscusstheconcernandtry
some interventions in the classroom. If the concern persists or significantly impacts the
child’s learning, the
parent or teacher may refer the student to a building problem solving team to review the concern and
interventionspreviouslytried.Thisteammaythendevelopanadditionalinterventionplanandtimeline.Ifthe
concern persists even after additional interventions, the child may be referred to a
building level
multidisciplinary team for further assessments. Teachers must secure the appropriate data (ISIP testing,
EasyCBMtesting,behaviortracking)tobringtoboththebuildinglevelteamanddistrictlevelteam.

Theterm“giftedandtalented”meansstudentswhoareidentifiedaspossessingdemonstratedorpotential

leadershipareas,orabilityintheperformingorvisualartsandchildrenofoutstandingabilitieswho are
capableofhighperformanceand
requireservicesoractivitiesnotordinarilyprovidedbytheDistrictinorderto
fullydevelopsuchcapabilities.TheDistrictprovidesforspecialinstructionalneedsofgiftedandtalented
childrenenrolledintheDistrict.
HALLOWEENCOSTUMES
Students mayweartheir costumes toschoolorbring them towearduring their classparty.No masks or toy

HOMELANGUAGESURVEYS

immunization at entry or reentry. Exemption from this law is allowed for medical or religious reasons. Any

INSURANCEFORSTUDENTSBOARDPOLICY3540
Injuries that occur from accidents during school hours or while participation in school activities are usually
coveredbyfamilymedicalplans.Theschooldistrictdoesnotprovidemedicalinsurancetoautomaticallypayfor
medical expenses when students are injured at school. Parents/guardians need to be prepared for possible
medical expenses that
may arise should your child be injured at school. The school district does have basic
liabilitycoverageasrequiredbytheStateofIdaho.Lost,stolen,ordamagedequipmentorclothingisnot covered
bydistrictinsurance.
INVESTIGATIONS
The school administrator or designee will investigate any allegations of misconduct that are reasonably
characterized as problematic.The administrator in charge of the investigation will, at a minimum, take the

TheBoardofTrusteesiscommittedtoprovidingapositiveandproductivelearningandworkingenvironment.
Hazing,harassment,intimidation,cyberbullying,orbullyingbystudentsorthirdpartiesisstrictlyprohibited
andshallnotbetoleratedintheDistrict.Thisincludesactionsonschoolgrounds,schoolproperty,school
buses,atschool
busstops,atschoolsponsoredeventsandactivities,andthroughtheuseofelectronic
technologyorelectroniccommunicationequipmentonschoolcomputers,networks,forums,ormailinglists
andactionsatlocationsoutsideofthoselistedabovethatcanbereasonablyexpectedtomateriallyand
substantiallyinterferewithordisruptthe

TheDistrictendorsestheparentinvolvementgoalsofTitleIandencouragestheregularparticipationof
parentsofTitleIeligiblechildreninallaspectsoftheprogram.Theeducationofchildrenisviewedasa
cooperativeeffortamongtheparents,school,andcommunity.In this policytheword“parent”also
includes
guardiansandotherfamilymembersinvolvedinsupervisingthechild’sschooling.
PursuanttofederallawtheDistrictwilldevelopjointlywith,agreeuponwith,anddistributetoparentsof
childrenparticipatingintheTitleIprogramawrittenparentinvolvementpolicy.Thenoticeshallinclude
informationaboutcomplaintprocedures
regardingTitle1parentalparticipationprogramsandshallinform
